The legal paperwork

signing the wedding registry

You are free to get married or form a civil partnership at any venue within England or Wales which is licensed for civil ceremonies, regardless of where you live. However, before you are able to get married or form your civil partnership, both of you must complete your legal paperwork. This paperwork is called a Notice of your Intention and must be completed at least 16 days before the date of your ceremony.

If one or both of you are non-EU citizens and are subject to immigration control then recent changes to the legislation will affect you and you should pay special attention to the Information for non-EU citizens.
