Residents of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

If you are both EU citizens and both resident within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea then you are free to get married or form a civil partnership at any venue within England or Wales which is licensed for civil ceremonies. However, as residents of the Royal Borough you will both need to give your Notices to a Superintendent Registrar at this office and this must be done at least 16 days before the date of your ceremony.

If you are both EU citizens and only one of you is resident within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea then you are still free to get married or form a civil partnership at any venue within England or Wales licensed for civil ceremonies. However only the party resident within the Royal Borough will need to give their Notice to a Superintendent Registrar at this office. The other party will need to give their Notice to the Superintendent Registrar of the district in which they reside (or have resided for the preceding seven days) and this must be done at least 16 days before the date of your ceremony.

If one or both of you are non-EU citizens then you will each need to give ‘Notice of Marriage’ to the Superintendent Registrar of a designated Register Office. You will need to refer to the following link Information for non-EU citizens for further information on getting married.

It will cost £30.00 for each Notice given and this fee is paid to the Superintendent Registrar at the time of giving Notice.

When a Notice is given in this office, each of the parties resident within the Royal Borough will be required to show their current passport and provide one of the following Proofs of Address to the Superintendent Registrar:

  • UK Photo Driving Licence (showing your current RBKC address)
  • RBKC Council Tax document
  • RBKC Resident's Parking Permit (showing your current RBKC address)
  • Electoral Registration Card / document
  • Tenancy Agreement
  • DSS or other Benefit Payment Book (showing your names and current RBKC address)
  • IND Photo Card showing current RBKC address
  • NHS Medical Card

An appointment system is in operation at this office for Notices. We are an extremely busy office and recommend that you telephone to make your appointment as soon as possible. Please contact the Register Office if you wish to book an appointment.
