Work experience

Work Experience is an activity that provides an insight to the world of work.

In order to ensure valuable learning and development the activity requires effective partnership between businesses, learners and educationalists. The activity is similar to volunteering but has specific learning outcomes attached to it.

Media Prospects Project

Media Prospects is seeking media companies interested in offering work experience placements to enthusiastic people with strong media interests or experience and computer skills. There is no cost to the company. We match companies with suitable people for four to 12 week periods.

Kensington and Chelsea Education Business Partnership

The Business Partnership brings together schools, colleges, businesses and the voluntary sector to form lasting partnerships of mutual benefit. The range of projects includes:

• work experience for pupils and college students for a period of up to two weeks.
• mentoring brings together employers and students on a one to one basis to work together on an agreed programme to support the student's education.
• teacher placements for between one to five days teachers work in a company to examine issues which will support their own work and professional development.
• careers and industry events to raise awareness of different aspects of the world of work to help pupils to make informed career choices.
• industry visits by students also helps them with experience of the world of work and career choices.
• employer placements in schools help to build mutual understanding between education and business.
• supporting the curriculum and working in classrooms either with individuals or small groups.

Kensington and Chelsea Volunteer Bureau

The Volunteer Bureau runs the following two projects:

• Office Furniture and Equipment Recycling Scheme. Businesses with reasonably good office furniture or equipment that is being replaced can donate it to this scheme. Donations are passed onto voluntary organisations in the Borough.
• Employee Volunteer Project. This project offers employees the opportunity to become volunteers in the community with the support of their employer. A brokerage service matches the needs of voluntary organisations with the skills of the employee. Opportunities include membership of management committees of voluntary organisations, providing specialist advice and skills and teamwork projects.
