The Mayor announced on the 30 September that he would be going ahead with plans to extend the congestion charge zone into Kensington and Chelsea. The extended zone will become operational on 19 February 2007.
This comes after the Transport for London consultation showed that only 24 per cent of London residents support the scheme.
In his announcement, Ken Livingstone acknowledged this largely negative response to his proposal. However, he declared in his statement that he was not persuaded that these representations outweighed the arguments in favour of the extension.
