Green recycling bin

Love the street you live in logo

If you have a ground floor or basement refuse storage area, why not take advantage of a free green recycling bin?

The bin will mean that you can keep all your recycling in one bin without the need for any other form of identification such as a recycling tag or a orange recycling bag.

All in One Bin means that all your recycling can go in one bin; you do not need to have separate bags for papers, glass and such like. Put your recycling in loose or reuse an old plastic supermarket carrier bag (leave it open).

Important: Do not use a black bag, as we do not recycle anything in a black bag.

Very simple isn't it? The bin is about the size of a normal dustbin so it can sit neatly beside your normal dustbin. Twenty per cent of your rubbish in one bin and a potential 80 per cent of your rubbish in your recycling bin! So what can you recycle?

All of these items can go in your green recycling bin

  • Newspaper
  • Magazines
  • Junk mail
  • Envelopes (including window
    envelopes)
  • Cans and tins (such as food tins and aerosol cans)
  • Telephone directories (not yellow pages)
  • Card
  • Cardboard boxes (please flatten)
  • Glass bottles and jars ( please rinse)
  • Plastic bottles

Important: Do not put any of the following items in your recycling green bin

  • Window glass
  • Pyrex glass
  • Ceramics
  • Crockery
  • Wood
  • Kitchen food waste
  • Tin foil
  • Foil food containers
  • Plastic tubs
  • Pots
  • Microwave food containers
  • Polystyrene
  • Plastic cling film or other plastic
    wrapping
  • Wrappings or boxes contaminated
    by food
  • Nappies
  • Tights and stockings
  • Hard backed books
  • Lever arch/plastic folders
  • Electrical goods
  • Builders' waste
  • Light bulbs
  • Household batteries
  • Garden waste

If any of these items are found in your green bin you will have the rest of your bin treated as non recyclable and thrown away to landfill because of the risk of contamination.

The bins are delivered with instructions on the recyclables that we can collect from you and have a Recycling Bin sticker on the side of the bin.

They are emptied twice a week on your normal refuse collection days. There is one green bin available for each property, so do check in your basement or storage area to make sure your neighbour has not already had a bin delivered for you to use.

To order your bin just complete our online order form. Remember to include your address and telephone number. Alternatively you can order a bin direct from Blackwalls by telephoning 0800 316 3200 and asking for the Kensington and Chelsea Green Bin Offer.
