Green Garden Waste

Love the street you live in logo

One of the problems faced by landfill sites is the amount of biodegradable material, including garden waste, entering the waste stream. Garden waste such as leaves, twigs, grass cuttings and hedge trimmings is perfect material for composting. If you can compost your garden waste in your garden then please do so as this is the most environmentally friendly way of dealing with garden waste.

Please note: Garden waste will NOT be collected in any bags other than those detailed below. Garden waste should not be put out for collection with the normal rubbish as the collection crews will NOT take it. However, you can take your garden waste, free of charge to:

WRWA
Smugglers Way,
Wandsworth
London
SW18

For further information see our Amenity Skips page.

Garden Waste Composting Scheme

The Council operates a garden waste composting scheme, using two different types of bag.

Reusable bags

If you have excess garden waste that you would like to compost, the Council can take it away to be composted for you. This is a free service for all residents. The Council provides a free, re-useable bag for your garden waste, which is emptied by a special crew.

Please see the Garden Waste Composting Scheme for more information. Garden Waste Composting Scheme.

Biodegradable bags

If you have large quantities of garden waste that you would like the Council to take away and compost for you then you may purchase single-use, biodegradable bags from the Council. Again, these are taken away by a special crew.

Please see the Garden Waste Composting Scheme for more information. Garden Waste Composting Scheme
