Plastic Bag recycling

Why recycle plastic bags?

Plastic bags can take hundreds of years to decompose in a landfill site. It is therefore important to make sure as few as possible find their way to a landfill site.

One way of doing this is to reduce plastic bag use at source. Many shops will give you a plastic bag even if you don’t need it or want it – don’t be afraid to tell a shop assistant you don’t want the bag! If more people do this, the stores will soon get the message.

Alternatively, you can re-use plastic bags time and time again – ‘Bags for Life’ are great for this and most supermarkets offer them very cheaply. Tesco will reward you with one ‘Green’ Clubcard point for every bag you re-use, even if it isn’t one of their bags. If your plastic bag is getting to the end of its life don’t bin it – you can recycle them.

Where can I recycle plastic bags?

In Kensington and Chelsea you can recycle plastic bags at the following outlets.

Tesco, West Cromwell Road

The plastic bag recycling point is by the entrance from the car park. This facility is perfect for plastic bags that are coming to the end of their use.

Notting Hill Housing Trust Charity Shops

The charity accepts plastic carrier bags for re-use in their stores:

  • South Kensington
  • Olympia
  • Kings Road
  • Notting Hill Gate
  • Fulham Road
  • Brompton Road
  • Kensington Church Street

Waitrose, Kensington High Street

The plastic bag recycling point can be found behind the main till points, at the exit to the store (Earl's Court Road exit).
