Diwali - did you know

November 14 sees the celebration of one of the biggest Indian festivals, Diwali.

Known as the Festival of Lights it's celebrated in almost all regions of India and signifies the renewal of life, and the victory of good over evil. It's also looked upon as the beginning of a new year with the exchange of gifts, new clothes and offerings of traditional sweets.

If you are preparing foods for any celebration such Diwali , or at any other time of year just remember:

  • Food poisoning is preventable.
  • Not all bacteria are harmful. For example, some help to make cheese and yoghurt.
  • Some bacteria spoil food. If they are present there is a good chance food poisoning bacteria may be present. The trouble is that you cannot see them!
  • Young children, the elderly, the sick and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to food poisoning
