Food Festivals Passover

Passover is one of the most significant festivals in the Jewish calendar. It celebrates the flight from slavery of the Jewish Israelites in ancient Egypt. It is this significant journey during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II (1290-1224 BC) that is seen as the birth of a united Jewish people.

The festival of Passover lasts for eight days.

Whether you are preparing food for Passover or at any other time year remember to read the labels. Before you buy any food products check that any tamper proof seals are in tact.

The information on food labels may look complicated but the messages given on food storage, preparation and cooking are vital for safe eating - and the enjoyment of food at its best.

Here are three tips before you come to use the food:

  • "Use by" dates on food and drinks tell an important tale
  • If the date has passed, don't eat the food!
  • Once opened, eat the food within 48 hours or sooner if the instructions say so.
