Halaal Food - Muslim Food Board

The Muslim Food Board (U.K.) was established in 1992. It is an independent organisation serving Halaal consumers throughout U.K.

There are about one-and-a-half million Muslims in the UK and over a billion world-wide. The commonality between all Muslims is that they must only consume Halaal food. Due to the fact that it is virtually impossible to establish whether a product is Halaal or not simply by reading the ingredients, Muslims in the UK found it very difficult to buy only Halaal food products.

The investigation and certification of food products can be a complex task and it was evident that a formal organisation to tackle such tasks was needed. The Muslim Food Board (UK) was established to formalise the investigation and certification of food products.

The main aims of the board are as follows:

To promote consumption of Halaal food products through:

  • research into food products to determine their suitability for Halaal consumption
  • informing consumers about Halaal status of products
  • answering queries from individuals regarding Halaal suitability of products or ingredients

To assist food manufacturers in producing Halaal food products by:

  • providing detailed information about Halaal requirements
  • authenticating food products and issuing Halaal certification
  • permitting the use of registered Halaal logo on food products certified by the board
  • monitoring Halaal certified products
  • providing advice on promotion of Halaal certified products
