History of Best Bar None

Best Bar None (BBN) award scheme was piloted in Manchester City Centre in 2003 to promote the responsible management and operation of alcohol-licensed premises. The scheme has taken off and there are now about 90 local authorities operating BBN schemes nationwide. It is now supported by the Home Office and the British Institute of Innkeeping.

Best Bar None in Kensington and Chelsea

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's Best Bar None scheme recognises, promotes and rewards the responsible management and operation of alcohol-licensed premises. The ultimate aim is to offer and maintain a high quality, safe and enjoyable social experience within the Borough for those that live in, work in and visit the area.

In 2008 the scheme was introduced to Kensington and Chelsea as a pilot covering the Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Earl’s Court areas. In 2009 we hope to extend the scheme across the whole Borough, taking in Kensington, Notting Hill and North Kensington.

The awards team is made up of RBKC Licensing Officers and the local Police, working in partnership with the Council’s Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Community Safety Team, the London Fire Authority, Transport for London and the British Institute of Innkeeping.
