Accessibility – usability, technical issues

We make every effort to ensure our website is accessible and easy to use for everyone, no matter what browser you choose to use, whether or not you have any disabilities and regardless of your experience of using the Internet.

Accessibility and usability issues

We aim to have our site accessible and usable by ensuring that:

  • you can change the font size. See How to increase the size of text
  • if you are blind or are visually impaired you can use screen reading software to find information. We have
  • if you have difficulties using a mouse you can navigate the site using the keyboard. See Access keys, see also Using the ‘Tab’ key to navigate links on a web page.
  • all images have alternative text equivalents so if you cannot see the images you can still use the site
  • our site navigation and structure are consistent to make it easy for you to find your way around it
  • we use Plain English
  • where possible we have one idea per paragraph, use short sentences, bulleted lists so that pages can be scanned and read quickly

Accessibility and technical standards

We are working to ensure that all webpages pages are valid to Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML) 4.01 Transitional and use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

This website conforms to the Guidelines for UK government websites, It supports the Worldwide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, Level A, to ensure a web accessibility standard has been achieved and is maintained.

We are working to ensure that all our pages meet the AA standard of the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
