The Staircase Hall
The Staircase Hall, circa 1866
The original house was built to an L-shaped plan with the staircase placed at its angle. Leighton's potential clients and guests were often received in the studio on the first floor. The route from entrance to first floor was therefore made suitably imposing and was richly decorated.
