About The Friends

Since the original group was set up in 1969, it has expanded and grown to include both Houses, and now offers its members a chance to be part of a different kind of Victorian history.

The two Houses provide unique opportunities for study and reflection. Leighton House shows the opulence Lord Leighton lived in, a house designed for entertaining with exotic and oriental influences. While Linley Sambourne House shows us a simple Victorian terraced house of a middle-class family.

The Friends believe these houses are worth preserving and encourage their ongoing restoration, as well as helping the Museums build their permanent collections.

  • Leighton's Roman Mother, and
