Book start

The Book start logo

The Bookstart charity is the first national books-for-babies programme in the world. Bookstart is based on a simple belief: "A love of books is a Gift for Life".

Babies who have an early introduction to books benefit in many ways: educationally, socially, culturally and emotionally. Bookstart aim to provide every child aged three and under with three free packs of books. Each pack contains two books.

Book start plus pack

Libraries host complimentary Bookstart Baby RhymeTime sessions to encourage you to sing to and interact with, your baby. Holding Baby RhymeTime in the Library enables you and your baby to join the Library and make full use of the resources available to build on the foundation laid by receiving their Bookstart bag.

Bookstart plus pack

The Bookstart plus pack is given to your child between 18-30 months by Health Visitors.

Libraries also hold Storytime sessions for this age group.

My Bookstart Treasure Chest

The My Bookstart Treasure Chest is distributed through nurseries, pre-schools and other Early Years settings, when your child is aged three.

It's never too early to start sharing books with your child. Taking the time every day to sing and or read to your child will help your child to learn to love hearing language. Most important of all, sharing a book with your child is a good opportunity for a cuddle!
