    Notting Hill Carnival

The Notting Hill Carnival has taken place over the August Bank Holiday weekend each year for over 50 years. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster City Council, the Mayor of London, Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police all work together to support the Carnival organisers to ensure a safe and enjoyable event with a high level of artistic input. Though not a direct funder of Notting Hill Carnival, Arts Council England invests around £4million year-round to support carnival arts organisations and projects across the country, including some which present at Notting Hill Carnival.

All agencies particularly want to acknowledge the fantastic contribution of  local community organisations, Carnivalist participants and volunteers, contributing thousands of hours of work: rehearsing and creating for the carnival throughout the year. They are the unsung heroes that provide the spectacle and a world famous cultural experience. In the wake of the tragic events at Grenfell, our local community deserve special recognition in 2017.

In 2017, the agencies spent over £2 million on Notting Hill Carnival in the form of grants to Carnival Arts, and funding to support the event planning, safety, crowd management, stewarding, fencing and barriers, toilets and to help with the clean up across the Carnival area. A separate independent piece of work was also commissioned to consider how crowds are managed. In addition, the policing of Carnival cost over £7 million. There was also income from street traders totalling an estimated £267,000.

Regardless of whether you attended this year's Notting Hill Carnival, we would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete this short survey and help us to get a better understanding of residents' views.

Your response will be treated in the strictest confidence.
