Ten-year Parks Strategy

Taking soil samples

The Royal Borough has 32 public parks and open spaces. Eight of these, including Holland Park, are categorised as ‘major parks’ due to a combination of size and range of facilities.

With the exception of Holland Park, which has been the focus of substantial investment and improvement already, these major parks have been identified for special consideration and investment.

The programme order, as set out in the table below, is provisional and will be subject to an annual review taking into account factors such as the impact of associated building developments.

  1. Kensington Memorial Park 2006
  2. St Luke’s Gardens 2007
  3. Athlone Gardens 2008
  4. Westfield Park 2009
  5. Avondale Park 2010
  6. Emslie Horniman Park 2011
  7. Cremorne Gardens 2012

We want each of the eight major parks to gain and keep the prestigious Green Flag Awards. While Holland Park already has a Green Flag, it is our intention that from 2007 each one of the other seven will be brought up to Green Flag level, and this will require that each have its own individual management plan.

This will mean achieving the highest horticultural quality, ensuring top quality maintenance and providing facilities for people to play, walk, exercise or relax. All this needs to be managed to ensure that there is something for everyone in the Borough’s parks.

This strategy sets out our vision for achieving that. If you have comments you would like to make about the content:
