Award given to Kensington and Chelsea for Britian in Bloom award
It’s good news for Kensington and Chelsea as the borough was awarded the only gold in the finals of London In Bloom.
Kensington and Chelsea finished first in the city category doing better than last year when it achieved a silver gilt award.
The London in Bloom judges were very impressed with the borough’s entry and commented that the borough’s displays were very clean, thoughtfully planned and well maintained.
The judges commented on the tremendous amount of work the Council does to involve community groups and a fine education programme. Council staff was also praised for being enthusiastic, knowledgeable and motivated.
Singled out for particular praise were St Clement and St James Community Development Project along with Avondale Park and St Luke’s Gardens.
Cllr Nicholas Paget-Brown, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Environmental Management and Leisure, said: “I am delighted that we have won the gold award and that the hard work of staff, residents, community groups and local businesses has been rewarded.
“I am pleased to see our many community and neighbourhood groups recognised for their hard work. At the end of the day the very essence of our being part of this competition is to improve the environment for everyone and we can all feel we have done just that.”
The borough also picked up three Discretionary Awards: second place in the London in Bloom Floral Display Award, second place in the London in Bloom Town and City Centre Award and second place in the London in Bloomin’ Pub and Restaurant Award for the Churchill Arms public house on Kensington Church Street.
In addition five Neighbourhood Awards were also received:
