Architecture Appraisal Panel (AAP)

Darwin Centre, Natural History Museum

Great building design – a matter of chance or careful selection? Discuss

The Royal Borough is widely recognised for its high quality of architecture and urban design. Much of this is derived from its rich heritage of buildings, parks and garden squares of architectural or historic character.

New high quality development, however, is playing an increasingly important role with pressure for contemporary designs reaching a 40 years’ high.

Join the independent panel of experts

To ensure continued design excellence in the Royal Borough, the Council and RIBA (London) are appointing an Architecture Appraisal Panel (2008) who are an independent panel of experts who will hold monthly design review meetings and lively debate the merits of the latest interesting and challenging local development proposals.

We wish to recruit architects, conservation architects and urban designers with a good knowledge of the Kensington and Chelsea area. A critical ability is important, and experience in teaching in a professional context or engagement on similar panels is welcome.

Panel members volunteer to take part in at least six panel meetings within a 12 month period. Appointments are in a personal capacity and successful candidates are not expected to represent the views of their current employers, RIBA or the Council.

Please note: The first AAP meeting is scheduled for the first week of February 2008.

Further details may be obtained from the Senior Urban Designer on 0207 361 2573.

Closing date for application 17 December

Candidates are asked to apply by 17 December 2007 by sending a detailed CV and covering letter to:
