The Site Specific Allocations deals with the development of land or buildings on sites within the borough which may come forward during the lifetime of the Local Development Framework (2008-2018).
This Local Development Document is being developed in consultation with residents, landowners and developers and will be based on a thorough assessment of options for site development so that the needs of the community are best met.
The Council wrote to residents groups, landowners, developers and other interested parties in May 2005 inviting them to suggest sites that could be brought forward early in the Local Development Framework process so that they could be considered by the Council and subjected to the necessary sustainability appraisal. As part of this process consultees were also invited how they would wish to see the site developed. A follow up letter was sent in July 2005.
As part of the Issues and Options consultation in November/December 2005 a further opportunity was given for sites to be identified and proposed uses put forward.
The responses were analysed and as a result the Site Specific Allocations Issues and Options document was produced. The consultation for this document ran for six weeks between Monday 26 June and Monday 7 August 2006. The consultation is now closed.
For background information see the following:
A sustainability appraisal was also undertaken of the proposed options acceptable to the Council.

After taking account of the responses and the results of the sustainability appraisal the Council will prepare a preferred options paper which will outline the preferred uses for each site and the reasons why other options were rejected. Other aspects such as broad design principles or access will also be clarified as necessary. The consultation for this document is likely to be in early 2007.
An updated sustainability appraisal of the preferred options will also be published.
