Incident in Markham Square on Tuesday 6 May 2008

The firearms incident in Markham Square will have come as a great shock to many residents.

As you may now be aware, police were called to the area at 5pm after reports of shots being fired. Following an exchange of fire between a gunman and police marksmen, officers entered a property and brought out a man who was declared dead at the scene.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating this death in accordance with normal procedure.

Thankfully such incidents are rare in Kensington and Chelsea.

Counselling services available

Though no one else was injured in the incident, it is possible that those who witnessed it are suffering shock or anxiety.

Kensington and Chelsea Council is able to provide a service to anyone who witnessed this incident and who feels they might need support.
