Street trading charter

The aim of our charter is to make sure:

  • market standards follow the law
  • we help traders and the local community make the most of our markets
  • our markets have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere

We will:

  • make sure our officers are available during street trading hours to help traders and members of the public
  • provide a quality and courteous service
  • uphold the London Local Authorities Act 1990 and the Standard Conditions for street trading in a fair and sensitive manner
  • seek help from the Metropolitan Police with unlicensed street trading

We will provide:

  • a suitable trading environment
  • prompt responses to trader requests
  • sensible supervision of the Standard Conditions for street trading
  • a good standard of cleaning in the markets by council contractors
  • a speedy response to all complaints from traders and members of the public
  • expertise through other council departments to resolve any problems that are not within the street trading mandate
  • a high quality service that provides value for money
  • fair allocation of vacant sites

 

Complaints

If you have a complaint, come and see us in the Street Trading Office. One of our officers will try and help you there and then.
