Four

by Jelica Polimac, Viola Visnjevac, Verica Avlijas and Sonja Polimac.

31 August – 12th September 2010

An exhibition of four diverse artists, working in a range of media and spanning the globe. Through the sweeping landscapes of Southern Ontario, where Viola has found her inspiration, the bridges spanning Britain which Jelica has crossed, the muse that Sonja finds in fashion, to the strength and grace of the equine form that Verica has so convincingly depicted, each woman has discovered the language of expression.

Jelica Polimac - Punting

Jelica Polimac

While Jelica is more at home painting portraits, her decision to branch out with this subject of ‘Bridges’ shows how incredibly versatile she is as an artist. Jelica’s paintings truly give the timeless, endless, breathless feeling that one has when the opportunity of a bridge spans out before oneself. Jelica is an associate of Guildford Art Society and has exhibited in Toronto and England.

Viola Visnjevac - Soyers Lake

Viola Visnjevac

The overwhelming impression one is left with when experiencing Viola’s art is a vibrant and harmonious joy for life, inspired by the endless South Ontario landscape. Her subjects range from the majestic tranquillity of a Canadian lake to the charm of an Ontario town reminiscent of the Old World. Viola has exhibited in Ontario and Paris and is a member of the Don Valley Art Club in Toronto.

Verica Avlijas - Horse

Verica Avlijas

Verica spent many years as an art collector and dealer in Belgrade, selling art from both well-known artists and her own work. The inspiration for her work on horses comes from her admiration of their beauty, grace and strength that these animals exhibit. Verica has exhibited in Holland and Belgrade.

Sonja Polimac - Silk Painting

Sonja Polimac

Fashion is a multifaceted, ever changing art form, all of which is clear to see in Sonja’s silk scarves. Sonja has been interested in fashion and fashion accessories from a young age, but is relatively new to silk painting. Sonja is currently reading History of Art at the University of York, where she spends time on the committee of the Norman Rea Gallery on campus. Sonja has both organised and curated this exhibition.
