Winter weather arrangements
Page last updated Wednesday 11 March 2013
Weather warnings remain in place from the Met Office (see
their
website for more information).
We've collected together all the information you need to help
you deal with most eventualities - bookmark this page, or follow us
on Twitter (@rbkc_cs) for updates on services that may affect
you.
Schools
As the local authority is not responsible for schools you should
always check directly before travelling in very bad weather:
borough schools' contact details. We can
only publish the names of closed schools if they let us know, and
will do our best to keep you updated.
Gritting of roads and pavements
Our Waste Management team is responsible for
gritting public roads and pavements. Certain routes are
prioritised, such main roads, pedestrian crossings, access to
schools and social services properties.
For safety reasons we don't recommend residents gritting their
own roads - our street teams are out in force making sure as
much of the borough as possible is covered - if you've any concerns
or questions you should email streetline@rbkc.gov.uk.
Please note: Transport for London (TFL) is responsible for
maintaining the red routes which run through the borough, further
information is available by calling 020 7343 5000 or email enquiries@streetmanagement.org.uk.
Clearing Ice and Snow
We've produced a helpful guide, with advice on safely clearing
snow and ice from pavements and public spaces, especially if you're
concerned about vulnerable neighbours: Clearing Ice and Snow
Older and vulnerable people
Meals on wheels services should operate as normal unless we
advise otherwise.
We have lots of tips for keeping warm this winter, as well as
information on what grants you may be entitled too: see
our Keeping Warm section for
advice.
