Your civil partnership vows

If you have chosen to include our non-legal civil partnership ceremony as part of your special day then you may choose from one of the following standard sets of declaratory and contracting words which will form part of that ceremony.

Ceremony A

Declaratory words

I ………….. hereby pledge to share my life openly with you …………..

Contracting words

I ………….. take you ………….. to be my civil partner under law.

Ceremony B

Declaratory words

I ………….. hereby pledge to share my life openly with you ………….. From this moment on I ask you to be with me on our journey, to share our dreams, go forward together and to be my companion along the way.

Contracting words

I ………….. take you ………….. to be my civil partner under law. I make this pledge freely, with honesty and sincerity and with a commitment that will grow deeper and stronger as the years pass.

Ceremony C

Declaratory words

The Officiating Registrar will ask 'Are you ………….. free lawfully to form a civil partnership with …………..?' to which you must reply, 'I am'.

Contracting words

I ………….. take you ………….. to be my civil partner under law.

Exchanging rings

If you and your partner are exchanging rings you may wish to incorporate some additional words at this stage of the proceedings and our recommendation is:

'I give you this ring as a token of my love and a sign of the promises I make to you today'.

If however you wish to use your own words, these will need to be approved in advance by The Superintendent Registrar.
