Bringing Crossrail to North Kensington

In early December Mayor Boris Johnson visited the borough to see
the site of the new Crossrail line, due to open in 2017, which will
go through the north of the borough. Crossrail will provide fast
and regular services to central London to 1.5 million people living
to the east and west.
I want people in the north of the borough to benefit from the
opportunities Crossrail will provide. Kensal Green would be a great
site for a Crossrail station. Currently no station is planned for
the area, and I thought it was important that we showed the Mayor
the site, and explained the huge benefits a station could bring to
the area.
A station would mean people could travel quickly to work in
central London. The City would only be 15 minutes away and Canary
Wharf 25 minutes. Improved transport links would also attract
businesses and jobs to the area and provide easy access to
Portobello Road, helping to secure its future. A Crossrail Station
would act as a catalyst for all this.
The Mayor and I had a bird’s eye view of the entire site on
Thursday from the top of the office building at Portobello Dock. I
was once again reminded of the huge potential this area has. The
potential station site, near to Sainsbury’s on Ladbroke Grove, is
close to the borough boundaries of Westminster, Brent, Kensington
and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham.
The Mayor grew up in the area and was very interested
to see the site and hear the arguments for a station at Kensal
Green and plans for regeneration in the area. He also took the
opportunity to view the new adventure playground at Little Wormwood
Scrubs which was opened in late July.
What do you think?
What are your views on transport links in the borough? Have you
been making use of the newly opened Imperial Wharf station in
Chelsea? What benefits do you think a Crossrail station could make
to north Kensington and the Royal Borough as a whole?
I’ve made my views known, do you agree with them? Let me know
what you think.

Council

The crossrail was/is intended to act as a
driver for regeneration. Of Maidenhead and Shenfiels ? What
rubbish. But a stop serving the half mile radius of Kensal Green
makes great sense but buses must be brought into the station
yard.
It will draw small business and ease travel
for local residents. It will drive employment oppurtunities for
residents along the length of the line.

100% in support. The area needs a jolly good kick in the
backside to get it going and this should be the kick.
Transport links by bus are good but there is little else and
Crossrail would bring the massive development which the area
needs.

I agree, too good an opportunity to miss to
not have a station on the borough for this new rail line. The
regeneration potential of the new stop in the proposed location is
good. Remember the purpose of the line is to link the West and the
East, and this is the opportunity to ensure that.
