The NQT Induction Programme

In Kensington and Chelsea, ours is a team approach to learning, with parents, pupils, teachers and support staff working together. Our Newly Qualified Teachers will be developed as effective learners within a culture of team working within a family of schools. This year, the NQT programme is the result of further and closer collaboration and partnership between the Royal Borough School Improvement Service and its schools – a collaboration that will grow and develop in the years ahead. We are committed to working in a way that nurtures a strategy of ‘School to School Improvement’ where one school’s outstanding practice systematically benefits the wider family of schools. All schools can demonstrate exceptional practice that other schools can learn from. It is this culture of sharing that will help to sustain the excellent standards and secure outcomes for our children and young people into the future.

To book a place on any of these sessions please contact the CPD service at cpdteam@rbkc.gov.uk.

(All sessions are from 9.30am to 3.30pm)

Day 3: Guided Reading and Phonics

Reading is now a key focus of the new Ofsted Inspection.  Leading effective guided reading can be a challenge, in terms of lesson preparation and classroom organisation, and, unlike other subjects we teach, often teachers do not have a focused learning objective for each session.  Maintaining the balance between applying phonic knowledge and developing comprehension can be challenging for those working in FS and KS1.  This full day course will support teachers in reviewing their subject knowledge and developing their pedagogy in order to deliver effective guided reading routinely

Assessment for Learning (AfL) is at the heart of outstanding classroom practice. Since its introduction, AfL has become the most effective means of understanding what a pupil does or does not understand in class. AfL provides the teacher with constant, reliable feedback on the effectiveness of their teaching and pupils learning. This course will give teachers a range of effective strategies to maximise AfL opportunities across the curriculum

  • KS1: Thursday 20 October (IN114525)

Day 5: Progression in Numeracy

This course will support NQTs in developing their understanding of the progression in calculation in all four operations, and the different mental and written methods (informal and formal) children should be using throughout the Primary Years. In addition, the course will provide teachers with a wide range of techniques, resources and methods of assessing children
