Sure Start Maternity Grant

The Sure Start Maternity Grant is available to parents who receive Income Support, income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Child Tax Credit (which includes an amount higher than the Family Element), or the Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award. Receiving the Sure Start Maternity Grant will not affect any other Tax Credits or benefits you may be claiming.

It is awarded to families on a low income who might be finding it difficult to cope with the costs of a new baby, and does not have to be paid back. The grant is worth £500 for your first child only (or children in the case of a multiple birth).

You can claim a Sure Start Maternity Grant by completing form SF100 (Sure Start), which you can get from your local Jobcentre Plus office.
