Play Service
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Play Service
operates play centres for children aged 5 to 13 years in
schools.
Each play centre is staffed by a senior play worker, deputy play
worker and a team of play workers who are committed to delivering a
varied programme of activities with the children. All staff
are trained through the 'Community Learning In-Service Training
Programme'. The play centres work in partnership with their
host schools and meetings take place regularly.
Each play centre has a children's committee that meets regularly
with play workers to discuss play centre issues.
Representatives on the children's committee are selected by the
children.
The play centre provides a varied programme of activities and
the play and youth services support the integration of children
into mainstream provision where appropriate. The families and
children who have differing needs will receive support from the
play inclusion officer, who will carry out assessments to ensure
that the child's needs are met when using play services.
One-to-one additional support can be made available through social
care children with disabilities team.
