Is It Legal - keeping your family safe
We receive many queries from families about parental
responsiblity and the law. These cover a wide range of common
topics;
- at home
- at school
- outside of home
- children in trouble
The Family and Parenting
Institute have produced a booklet, that provides
information and guidance on the topics above and many more.
The most common query is, if your are fully confident in
your child to stay at home alone but are unsure at what age they
are fully responsible for themselves. The NSPCC have produced
additional literature about leaving your child home alone.
Please note that these booklet are not intended to replace
legal counsel, it is for information and guidance purposes
only. If you need legal advice, please visit The Law Society, to find a
solicitor to meet your needs.
It is also important to be aware about the many issues
concerning the safety of your child. The Royal Borough's
Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB)
, have online information covering a range of topics for parents
and also children and young people;
- drugs and alcohol
- mobile and internet safety
- mental and emotional well-being
- domestic violence
There are many other topics and plenty of support at the
LSCB webpages.
