In-Year Admissions up until July 2010
The School Admission Team will be able to provide further
information if you are unsure of any of the following
procedures.
If you have recently moved to the Royal Borough, and your child is
primary school age, you can contact schools directly to find if there is a
vacancy in your child's year group. The School Admissions Team hold
details on which schools are likely to have vacancies so we can
point you in the right direction. We do not advise that you just
join a waiting list and wait for a place to become available. You
should always accept an offer at an alternative school in the event
that your child does not get offered a place at your preferred
school.
If you have a child of secondary school age, it is highly unlikely
that we will be able to offer your child a place in a Royal Borough
secondary school as they are always full to their published
admissions number, and above in certain cases. We will offer you
assistance in finding a school place for your child, but it will
often be a school in a neighbouring borough. You can of course
request to be added to a waiting list for a school that is full,
but there is no guarantee that a place will become available
so you must make alternative arrangements.

Arrangements from September 2010
In accordance with the requirements of the new DCSF Admissions Code
which will be in force in the academic year 2010-11, all
applications for admission to secondary schools which are made
outside the normal admissions round will in future be co-ordinated
by the Royal Borough’s Admissions Team. That will mean that
all applications must be made directly to the Admissions Team and
not to individual schools. The details of how these new
arrangements will work in the Royal Borough will be agreed in
advance of the academic year 2010 -11 with the schools which are
their own admission authority and whose right to apply their
published admission arrangements and to rank applicants accordingly
is not changed by the new Code. A scheme and protocol will be in
place by 1 January 2010 and will be published on the website after
this date.
