The Study Clinic lesson plans and guidance materials, were developed in conjunction with colleagues at Westway Development Trust for teachers, tutors and mentors in schools and supplementary schools who are supporting English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners following level 3 courses.

The aim of this material is to help EAL students to become more confident in themselves as learners, to understand the expectations of Higher Educational Institutions and to make applications through the UcAS process.

The materials were trialled with students in a supplementary school setting, but can also be used to provide support for similar groups of students in schools and colleges.

  • Chapter 1 looks at preparing to study and provides lesson activities e.g. being aware of the learning environment, time management, revision techniques and managing stress
  • Chapter 2 provides some lesson activities that focus on academic study skills for example. question words, essay prompts, structuring essays and note taking
  • Chapter 3 provides some ideas for students to use outside the classroom environment
