Air quality monitoring
The Council is responsible for monitoring air quality so
that it can compare the pollution levels in the borough with
the national health-based objectives. These are set out within the
national Air Quality Strategy which can be found on the
Defra website.
The following air pollutants are monitored in the borough: ·
- nitrogen dioxide

(NO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)
- particulate matter (PM10/PM2.5)
- sulphur dioxide (SO2)
- ozone (O3)
- carbon monoxide (CO)·
- benzene
