Air quality monitoring

The Council is responsible for monitoring air quality so that it can compare the pollution levels in the borough with the national health-based objectives. These are set out within the national Air Quality Strategy which can be found on the Defra website.

The following air pollutants are monitored in the borough: ·

• nitrogen dioxide

  

  (NO₂) and nitrogen oxides (NO_x)
• particulate matter (PM₁₀/PM_2.5)
• sulphur dioxide (SO₂)
• ozone (O₃) 
• carbon monoxide (CO)·
• benzene
