Booking
How to book educational visits for schools or groups:
To book a visit please call the Ecology service on tel: 020 7938
8186.
We are usually very busy in the Spring and Summer terms so
please book early to avoid disappointment.
Essential preliminary visit
We strongly recommend that teachers take the opportunity to
visit the Ecology Centre and familiarise themselves with the
location and resources to ensure that pupils get the most from
their trip.
Each teacher/leader is therefore invited to attend a preliminary
planning meeting to discuss the focus of study. This is an
opportunity to view the wildlife area and review the facilities,
equipment, activities and health and safety issues in advance of
your visit. A pre-visit is essential for first-time visitors and
teachers who will be leading the session themselves.
Centre Capacity
The Ecology Centre can cater for groups of up to thirty children
with accompanying adults.
Availability
The centre is available from 10am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday,
during official school terms. Sessions last from 2 hours to a full
day, depending on your requirements.
Lunchtime Arrangements
Packed lunches can be eaten inside the ecology centre by
arrangement. There are outdoor picnic areas in the park and a café
and ice-cream kiosk. There are unsupervised play areas including a
toddlers playground (0-5 years) and an adventure playground, both
within easy reach of the Ecology Centre.
Supervision
All children must be supervised by adults on visits to the
Ecology Centre. The recommended adult to child ratio is 1:8 for
juniors and 1:6 for infants. The maximum class size is 30. Teachers
must take full responsibility for the group whilst attending the
Ecology Centre sessions. Risk assessment must be completed by the
school.
