Dog Fouling
Please clean up after your dog. You face a fine of up to £1,000
if you do not.
In 2008 it was estimated that there are 7.3 million
dogs in the UK, producing approximately 1000 tonnes of dog
excrement per day (source: Keep Britain Tidy). Dog fouling is
unsightly and unhygienic. The main threat from dog excrement
is Toxocariasis, an infection of the roundworm toxocara
canis. Read
more about Toxocariasis.
Cleaning up after your dog
It is your responsibility as a dog owner to clean up after your
dog. The easiest way for you to deal with your dog's
excrement is by using a poop-scoop, available from most pet
shops. If you don't have a poop-scoop, a good alternative is to use
a plastic bag to clean up after your dog. Please securely fasten
the plastic bag before disposing of it in the nearest bin, or
taking it home with you.
Dog Fouling and the Law
Under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, it is
an offence if a dog owner fails to clean up after their dog.
