Suspended permit bays
We may have to suspend resident parking bays
for a number of reasons, for example, for road works or large
delivery vehicles. If we do this, we will normally give you three
days’ notice (unless it is an emergency).
This notice is in the form of a yellow parking
suspension warning sign. This will be posted on the nearest
applicable time plate to the bay where the suspension will take
place. While we aim to place warning signs within 30 metres, this
is not always possible (and is not a legal requirement). Time
plates are mainly placed on sign posts and occasionally on garden
railings or lamp posts.
The start and end times of the suspension are
printed on the sign. You will not be able to park in the bay(s) at
the location described on the sign. Suspensions usually begin from
8.30am but could start earlier as it may be necessary on occasion
to suspend a bay outside of the controlled parking zone hours.
As a courtesy, we will also try to telephone
residents on the first day of the suspension
period. Automated calls are sent, Monday to Friday
between 7am and 8.30am, to alert the permit holder
that their vehicle is parked in a suspended bay and at risk of
being removed unless it is moved to another parking space.
There is, however, no guarantee that all
residents will be successfully contacted. There are no
further alert calls made on subsequent days or on weekends
during the suspended period. This service is not intended to
replace the need for residents to check daily that their vehicle is
parked in a valid space.
Please remember it is your responsibility to
check your vehicle daily before 8.30am to make sure that no
suspension is either due or about to take place.
If you cannot check, for example, because you
are away on holiday or business, you should arrange for someone
else to check and, if necessary, move your vehicle.
You can sign up online to receive suspension
email alerts, visit MyRBKC to register.
You can also search online
for suspensions in a road.
If you are going away you can leave your car
in the Kensington Town Hall car park at a
reduced rate.
To avoid receiving a penalty charge notice,
you should check the sign(s) for the bay before you park.
