Transport and streets
There are 127 miles of roads in the Royal Borough of Kensington
and Chelsea. The Westway (A40), Cromwell Road (A4), the Earl’s
Court one-way system (A3220) and Chelsea Embankment (A3212) are all
part of the Red Route network and Transport for London (TfL) is the
Highway Authority for these routes. The Council is the Highway
Authority for all other adopted roads.
The Council takes its responsibility for its public realm very
seriously.
We strive to improve our streetscape through small local schemes as
well as award winning major projects such as Exhibition Road.
Our highways maintenance and street
lighting standards are amongst the highest in the
country.
We take on the challenge of managing the traffic and parking in one of the most
densely populated areas in the UK to keep the borough moving.
We are concerned about local air quality as well as climate change, and
encourage the use of sustainable methods of transport as well as
walking and
cycling.
