Day services and centres

Day services in Kensington and Chelsea offer a variety of social, leisure, educational, health and well-being activities, and other opportunities.  These are available in community centres and elsewhere in your local community. The Council consulted with residents in 2010 about what services they would like to see, and the activities described below are a result of what local residents told us.

Day centres now provide a range of services. Some of these are based in the centres, but others can be found in other locations in your area. They include:

  • nutritious, subsidised, hot and cold food served in the morning, lunch time and afternoon
  • lots of activities to choose from, with the chance to try something new or enjoy a favourite pastime
  • support with travelling to and from centres and elsewhere
  • getting out and about to do things in your local community
  • support with personal care (if needed)

Local voluntary organisations organise a large range of activities and opportunities across the borough. These take place in various venues and include:

  • education classes such as art and computers
  • leisure classes from Tai Chi to dance
  • “be-frienders” who will visit you, or call you to provide company
  • support with odd jobs around the house
  • support for you on shopping trips
  • subsided community cars (taxis)
  • someone to help you get in touch  with your local community if you have lost touch with what’s going on
  • and so much more.

Local 'drop-ins'

At drop-in sessions you don't need to be a member of the day centre, you can just turn up. Enjoy a hot meal (there is a small charge for this) and a chance to socialise with old and new friends. Click here for a full list of local 'drop-in' sessions.

Centres for people for people with mental health issues

Mental health problems can cause people to become isolated. It helps to meet people who have been through similar experiences as you, and to get help if you feel you need it, in a relaxed environment. Sometimes people can feel alienated from their own society or culture. There are many organisations that will give you support.

See our day services for people with mental health issues pages.
