Miranda Barry is a day centre for elderly people with a number
of needs, situated in Chelsea on Fulham road, close to
Chelsea and Westminster hospital. The centre aims to provide
support to enable older people to stay living at home for as long
as possible. Activities at the centre aim to
encourage mobility and independence, and there
are services and activities specifically designed for people
with dementia.

"We get on very well with the staff, you can't say a bad
word about them"
What does the day centre offer?
The centre is a friendly and welcoming place, providing support
and company. It is designed to be flexible and give people choice
as to how they would like to spend their time. Staff provide:
- an individual support plan to help you get the most out of the
centre in a way that is right for you.
- support and advice about other services you might
need
- one-to-one working with staff
- three course lunch service that caters for all dietary
needs
- help with personal care
- daily essentials such as shopping for small items
- larger shopping trips
- support to get to local medical appointments
- help with letters and making phone calls
- fun and interesting activities

What kinds of activities are there?
There are monthly meetings of all the people who attend the day
centre where they decide what events and activities they would like
and discuss any changes to the day centre. Everything is decided in
consultation with the people who use the day centre. The manager’s
door is always open if anyone has any problems or anything they
would like to discuss. Some recent activities include:
- exercise groups
- quizzes
- manicure and nailcare
- tea parties
- outings
- arts and crafts
- regular visits from Opera Holland Park
- gardening
- discussion groups
- music events and sing-alongs
- reminiscence groups

What is available in the area?
The centre is based in a modern building next to the Chelsea and
Westminster hospital and Ellesmere Court. It is based on the Fulham
road with excellent transport links by bus to the rest of the
borough. There is a small supermarket nearby as well as cafes and
restaurants such as the Chelsea Kitchen (where we sometimes go for
lunch).
"It gives you a routine
structure for the week"
