Help to use computers and the internet
Using computers and the internet is easier than you think.
Technology these days is easy to use - if you've got this
far on your own - well done! If you are reading this because somone
else has got you here - don't worry, you can do it too. There are a
whole range of schemes to get people from all backgrounds
and ages on-line and comfortable with the internet.
Here are some to get you started:
Open Age
Open Age deliver over 40 weekly computer sessions in areas
around Kensington and Chelsea for over 50s ranging from beginners
to intermediate. For more information go to the Open Age website here
then select Computer Support and Drop-in Programmes - It
will then open a leaflet on screen with details of events - or call
Open Age on 020 8964 1900.
Age Concern Kensington
and Chelsea have a project aimed at people who are not
able to go to computer classes due to frailty or because they do
not have the confidence. The project uses young volunteers as
computer coaches for older people.
The BBC
First Click campaign is an excellent initiative with whole
range of resources to get you online and benefiting from the
internet.
UCanDoIT is
a charity that teaches computer skills to people in their own
homes. It’s great for people who are unable to access or fully
benefit from mainstream educational services, like colleges,
and good for people who have had a stroke and may take longer
to learn, or those with hearing and visual
impairments.
