Notting Hill Gate Re-opening celebration

Notting Hill Gate Library was officially re-opened on Tuesday 17 May 2011, with two celebrations.

In the afternoon children’s author and illustrator Shirley Hughes spoke to a Year One class from Fox Primary school about her books such as the Alfie series and Dogger. She also produced many illustrations including one of a woman who mistook a cat for her hat.

Broadcaster Mariella Frostrup attended the evening session, at which she gave a moving speech about the importance of libraries in society.

The celebrations were a great success and were also attended by the Friends of Notting Hill Gate, the Mayor and Councillor Elizabeth Campbell as well as many members of staff.

We are pleased to announce that Notting Hill Gate Library is now fully open after major refurbishment.

Two years after flooding damaged the Adam-style ceiling, Notting Hill Gate Library has been fully refurbished and completely restocked.  The ceiling has been beautifully restored and a fully updated 21st century library has been installed that complements the mid 19th century architecture.  Self service technology has been introduced and in response to demand, there are more PCs and an improved children's area.
