Exhibition of watercolours and charity Christmas sale

Profile of the artist: Jane Box-Grainger

I started watercolours painting some years ago, following the death of my husband of nearly fifty years. I have found painting a great solace and very fulfilling, and I have been greatly encouraged by the fact that some people have wanted to buy my pictures, calendars and cards.

My life prior to this exhibition has been varied - in the corps de ballet of the Anglo-Russian ballet company, five years acting in repertory, and teaching in the Hampshire School, Knightsbridge. The expansion of the School, as head mistress and proprietor and its progression to new premises in London and the Dordogne, France, formed a major part of the next forty years of my life. I have planned this exhibition to raise money for charity and to display some of my own watercolours.

When I look around me, both in England and abroad, I see the most wonderful colours and shapes, which I have tried to capture in my work. It is really the colour in all its myriad aspects that I enjoy most.
