Meeting room and lecture theatre for hire in Kensington Central Library

Looking for a venue to hire?

The Kensington Central library has a lecture theatre and a meeting room (with kitchen) available for hire by members of the public.

Unfortunately there is no disabled access or disabled toliet facilities attached to the lecture theatre and meeting room.

We're conveniently situated a few minutes walk from High Street Kensington tube station on the District and Circle lines on the London Underground.

What is available to hire?

Lecture Theatre

  • Can seat 162 using tiered seating
  • Stage with podium and screen for presentations
  • Facilities to use a projector with a laptop or an over head projector

Meeting room

  • Capacity of up to 50 people
  • En suite kitchen for catering - note you would need to supply your own refreshments
  • Grand piano
  • Situated next to the lecture theatre

Additional items for hire

In addition to the rooms themselves we offer the option to hire the following items:

  • Screen for projectors
  • Television with DVD/video
  • Flipchart stand including pads and pens
  • Theatrical lighting
  • Grand piano

You are responsible for ensuring that the equipment you hire from us is compatible with your laptop. We cannot guarantee that it will be compatible. If you wish to use your own equipment, you will need to provide a copy of the Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) certificate for it when booking the rooms.

How much does it cost to hire?

The table below gives the following costs for hiring the rooms and equipment.

Kitchen Flat fee of £20.00 per booking You must supply your own tea and coffee and/or food. You must clear up after yourself. This includes a microwave and a table top fridge.

Flipchart stand (including pads and pens) £10.00 per set per booking You may keep the pad, but the stand and the pens remain the property of the library

When can I hire the rooms?

The lecture theatre and meeting rooms are available to hire for a minimum of two hours on Monday - Friday and a minimum of three hours on Saturday.

Due to repeat bookings, the rooms are currently unavailable on Mondays and Wednesdays

The rooms are not available for hire on Sundays or Bank holidays.

How do I hire the rooms?

To hire the rooms you must apply in writing to the Kensington Central Library at least a month in advance. Your letter must contain the following information:

  • Your name and contact details
  • Why you wish to hire the rooms/equipment and what you intend to do in them
  • Dates and times of when you want to hire the rooms/equipment

Data protection statement: Any information you provide will be used by the Council for the purpose of hiring out the rooms to you, and will not be disclosed to the public.

We will then write to you stating if the room is available and advising you of the cost. If the room is available you will be sent a booking form that you will need to sign and return to us along with the payment to confirm the booking. Payment must be received at least 14 days before the date hiring will commence. Note, we only accept cash or cheques.
