The Council has been for some time considering ways to improve its library services to bring them up to the best 21st century standards and better respond to the diverse and ever-changing needs of its users.
To help achieve this ambition, the Library Strategy was drawn up setting out a transformation vision to provide services and surroundings which will fully realise the aspirations of local communities, support their ambitions and develop their skills.
The flagship Central Library project will be at the heart of this exciting change, providing outstanding facilities for new, as well as existing, visitors.
“The Council’s vision is for a truly inspiring facility that will bring a dramatic improvement in both the services our visitors have always used and new services which they may want to use for the first time.
“The challenge is to design a library that is not only more accessible and inclusive but one that would become a truly valued part of the diverse communities it serves.”
Jane Battye, Head of Library Services for the Kensington and Chelsea Council
To realise this vision, the Building Design Partnership (BDP) has been appointed to develop detailed designs.
