Computer facilities in Libraries

We have 111 computers for a range of purposes, including: emailing a friend, creating a report and testing your website for accessibility.

Accessibility Wizard

The Accessibility Wizard enables you to customise the computer for specific needs and requirements, such as:

  • Increased magnification
  • colour contrast
  • screen readers and
  • on-screen keyboard

Internet access

You can access the internet from all our branches. To find out more, please visit our Internet Access page, which has details of how to book an internet computer.

Wireless hotspot access

We offer wireless access to the internet at broadband speeds at four of our libraries where you can use your own wireless enabled device. For more information please visit our Wireless hotspot page.

Microsoft Office

A number of our computers in every branch will have Microsoft Office installed on them. With this software you can create documents and presentations. We also sell computer disks, so you can save your work and take it away with you.

For security reasons we do not allow you to bring in your own disks.

Screen reading software

We have a number of computers that have screen reader software installed. This enables people with visual impairments to surf the internet or write documents on a computer. The software reads the contents of the screen aloud to you.

Specially adapted keyboards and mice

  • Specially adapted keyboards - left handed keyboards, large print keyboards, single hand keyboards (useful for those who has suffered a stroke or only have mobility in one arm) and single finger keyboards
  • Specially adapted mice - for those who are unable to use their hands as well as ergonomic mice to support a range of disabilities
