The House is available to visit between 15 March and 14 December 2008.

The house was extensively restored and refurbished between 2000 and 2003. It now contains the following facilities:

  • Visitor reception and education space in the newly converted basement.
  • Shop and cloakroom facilities.
  • Educational resources for schools.
  • A specially commissioned video introducing the house and the Sambourne family.

How to Visit the House

All visits to the house are by guided tour only with set tour times on Saturdays and Sundays and at other times by appointment.

Weekend tours are led by an actor in period costume, providing a compelling insight into the lives of the Sambourne family.

Weekday Visit to the House

Weekday bookings can be made on an appointment basis.

Note: Weekday tours are not led by guides in costume, unless by special arrangement.

The total visit time is approximately two hours for a maximum of 24 people.

Joint Tours of Leighton House Museum and Linley Sambourne House

Leighton House Museum and Linley Sambourne House are approximately 10 minutes walk apart. Guided Tours of both houses can be booked for a maximum of 48 participants. Combined tours will take approximately three hours in total.

The House can be booked for evening events when actors in costume will recreate an evening at home with the Sambournes.

Access

All access to the house is via the basement entrance. The house is arranged over five floors with steep steps both externally and internally.

There is no wheelchair access.

Facilities

Public toilets, shop and the video introduction to the house are in the basement. Tea and coffee are available for pre-booked groups by prior arrangement.

Location

Linley Sambourne House is located at 18 Stafford Terrace, W8 - just a two minute walk from Kensington High Street and the Commonwealth Institute.

From If you walk west along Kensington High Street, in the direction of the Commonwealth Institute, turn right into Phillimore Gardens and take the second right into Stafford Terrace.

Kensington High Street has numerous restaurants and cafes close to both Linley Sambourne House and Leighton House Museum.
