Council officer to advise David Blunkett on race relations issues

2 July 2003

The Council's Community Relations Advisor has been appointed as a key advisor to the Home Office on race equality issues.

Mr Ahmed is one of 25 people who have been selected nationally to sit on the Race Equality Advisory Panel that will advise the Government on the needs of different communities when they are developing policies and delivering services.

The Royal Borough has welcomed the appointment of Mr Ahmed to this key advisory post. Councillor Nicholas Paget-Brown, the Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Community Safety and External Relations said "I am delighted that the Home Office has appointed Mr Ahmed to this important body of people who will help shape Government policy on community relations. It reflects well on the work Mr Ahmed and his team in the Community Relations Section have been undertaking in the Royal Borough. It is the oldest Community Relations Section in the country"
