Kensington and Chelsea Provides Housing for All

11 July 2003

New figures show that the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has one of the highest proportions of social housing in London. Nearly a third (32 percent) of all housing in the borough is in the public sector. The national average for social housing provision is just 20 percent. These figures from the Greater London Authority leave Kensington and Chelsea lying seventh in a league table of the thirty-two London boroughs.

Cllr Cockell, Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council said, " Kensington and Chelsea has of course got some real areas of prosperity but has always been a real mix of people from all sorts of different backgrounds and social situations."

Two of the boroughs electoral wards, Golborne and St. Charles fall into the 10 percent of most deprived wards in the country.
