Council and TMO celebrate inspection success!14 July 2003The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the Tenant Management Organisation (TMO), which manages the Council's housing stock, were this week celebrating the release of £36.1m in extra resources from the Government under their arms' length management organisation (ALMO) initiative. This will allow the TMO to refurbish all its residents' homes, where necessary installing new roofs, windows, heating systems, kitchens and bathrooms. This followed a rigorous inspection of the TMO by the Audit Commission's Housing Inspectorate, which rated the TMO as being a good (two star) service with excellent prospects for improvement. This result places the Council and TMO in the top ten per cent of all such inspections, carried out across the country. The Audit Commission was particularly impressed with the high standards of grounds maintenance and cleanliness on the estates, extensive opportunities for tenant and leaseholder involvement, the high quality of services to residents in sheltered schemes for the elderly, and the speed and effectiveness with which the TMO, in conjunction with other agencies, deal with anti-social behaviour and serious nuisance, such as crack houses. Councillor Tim Coleridge, the Cabinet Member for Housing said: "This is an endorsement of the Council's decision to apply for ALMO status and congratulations should go to the TMO for the considerable improvement to services, which have taken place over the last two years. I am pleased that our residents can look forward to improved homes between now and 2007." Rashid Nasir, Chair of the TMO Board stated: "I am delighted with this result. It shows the tremendous dedication of the TMO Board and all of its staff, who have worked long hours to achieve this great result. It is also a reflection of the very close working relationship between the Council and the TMO." For further information contact Press and Public Relations.
