16 July 2003

Councillor Mrs. Frances Taylor, Chairman of the twinning between the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and Cannes, saw off 50 talented youngsters from the Borough as they prepared for a 4-day exchange trip to Cannes. The group is scheduled to perform in some of the most exclusive venues in the city. Named after the Notting Hill Central Line, the troupe comprises of singers, dancers and musicians and includes Europe's top steel band and a new rising star, Terri Walker, whose debut album has already sold over 25,000 copies.

The French coastal resort will host two concerts by the group in the main square opposite the port. The Mayor of the Royal Borough, Cllr. Christopher Buckmaster and Cllr. Mrs. Taylor will be received by M. Bernard Brochand, Deputy Mayor for Cannes, for a meeting. M. Brochand will then host a reception for the group in the Mayor's official residence.

Cllr Mrs. Taylor, Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Community Partnerships and Economic Development, will be in Cannes for the performances where she aims to build new relationships with various parties and explore opportunities for future exchange trips in 2004 and the coming years. Cllr Mrs.Taylor is also chairman of the Public and Road Safety Committee and helped secure some additional funding for the trip from London Underground. She said, "We are all very grateful to London Underground who came forward with a generous sponsorship towards the cost of the trip."

The exchange trip is designed to give those involved an experience of another culture as well as giving the people of Cannes the opportunity to see and hear the talents of young people from the Borough. Ian Comfort, Director for Community Education for the Borough, has played a key role in organising this trip and is keen to promote the high standard that the group has achieved.
